Remove line breaks

Strip unwanted line breaks from pasted text in one click — flatten PDF or email copy into clean paragraphs, or repair split URLs.

Options

Your text never leaves your browser — cleanup happens on your device.

Paste broken text, and get it back as clean, flowing paragraphs — line breaks removed, extra spaces tidied, with a live count of what was fixed and a one-click copy. Free, no signup, and your text never leaves your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text with unwanted breaks into the top box.
  2. Choose a mode: remove all line breaks, or keep blank-line paragraph breaks.
  3. Copy the cleaned result — the counter below confirms how many breaks were removed.

Where broken line breaks come from

The classic offender is PDF copy-paste: PDFs position each visual line separately, so copied text arrives with a hard break at the end of every line. Emails wrapped at 72 characters, text from scanned documents and OCR, subtitles files, terminal output, and content pasted between CMSs all do the same thing. The symptom is identical — a paragraph that should flow arrives as a ragged column, and re-wrapping it by hand means deleting breaks one by one.

The two modes

Remove all line breaks collapses everything into one continuous block — right when the source is a single paragraph or you are feeding the text into a form field that treats every newline as a submission.

Keep paragraph breaks is the smarter default for real documents: blank lines (one or more) are treated as intentional paragraph separators and survive, while the breaks inside each paragraph are removed. A three-paragraph PDF excerpt comes out as three clean paragraphs.

By default, joined lines are separated with a single space, and leftover trailing spaces from the source are trimmed so you never get doubled spaces. Turn the space option off to hard-concatenate instead — the right choice for repairing a URL, file path, or license key that was split across lines.

Details worth knowing

Windows (CRLF), Unix (LF), and legacy Mac (CR) line endings are all recognized. Empty lines inside a paragraph do not produce stray spaces. The removal counter updates live, which makes it easy to sanity-check that the tool saw the same number of breaks you did.

After flattening, you might want the word counter to check length, the case converter if the source was shouting in caps, or the remove duplicate lines tool if you are cleaning a list rather than prose.

Private by design

There is no server behind this page — the cleanup is JavaScript running on your device. It works instantly on any length of text, keeps working offline once loaded, and pasting confidential contracts, medical letters, or unpublished writing here is safe because nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why does text copied from a PDF have line breaks everywhere?
PDFs store text as visually positioned lines, not flowing paragraphs. When you copy, each visual line ends with a hard line break — so pasting into a document or email produces a ragged column instead of a paragraph. This tool joins those lines back into flowing text.
What does "Keep paragraph breaks" do?
It treats blank lines as intentional paragraph separators and preserves them, while removing only the line breaks inside each paragraph. Use it when the source had real paragraphs you want to keep.
When would I turn off the space separator?
When rejoining something that was split mid-token: a long URL broken across two lines, a serial number, or a hash. With the space option off, lines are concatenated with nothing between them.
Does it handle Windows and Mac line endings?
Yes. CRLF (Windows), LF (Unix/Mac), and old-style CR line endings are all detected and removed the same way.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleanup runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted, logged, or stored.
