Rotate and flip an image

Rotate images 90° or 180° and mirror them horizontally or vertically — live preview, then download in the original format.

The preview rotates and flips live — download when it looks right

Your image never leaves your browser — rotation happens on your device.

Rotate an image in 90° steps, flip it horizontally or vertically, or combine both — watching a live preview the whole time — then download in the same format you started with. Free, and the photo never leaves your browser.

How to rotate or flip an image

  1. Drop your JPG, PNG, or WebP.
  2. Click rotate/flip buttons until the preview looks right — operations stack.
  3. Apply, then download. PNG stays lossless; JPG re-encodes once at high quality.

The two problems this fixes

The sideways photo. Phones record orientation as a metadata flag rather than rotating the actual pixels, and plenty of software — upload forms, older viewers, embedded previews — ignores the flag. The fix is to bake the rotation into the pixels, which is exactly what this tool does. After that, the photo is upright everywhere, forever.

The mirrored selfie. Front cameras preview a mirror image, and some apps save it that way — which is why the text on your shirt reads backwards. That’s not a rotation problem; it needs a horizontal flip to restore reality. One click here un-mirrors it.

Rotate vs flip, in ten seconds

Rotation turns the image like a steering wheel: 90° left/right for sideways scans and photos, 180° for upside-down ones. Flipping reflects it in a mirror: horizontal swaps left↔right (the selfie fix, also used for symmetric design assets), vertical swaps top↔bottom (rarely needed, occasionally scanner-inflicted). Combined, the eight possible orientations cover everything a camera or scanner can do to you.

Details worth knowing

Output format matches input — PNG in, PNG out (pixel-perfect, transparency intact); JPG in, JPG out with one high-quality re-encode; WebP likewise. Dimensions swap on 90°/270° rotations (a 4000×3000 photo becomes 3000×4000), shown next to the preview before you commit. Need to straighten a slight tilt rather than a full 90°? That’s a crop-and-rotate job — pair the crop tool with this one, or resize afterwards with the image resizer. Many photos at once? The bulk resizer handles batches.

Private by design

Everything runs on your device in a background thread. No upload, no server copy — rotate ID scans and private photos without a second thought.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating lose image quality?
90° and 180° rotations rearrange pixels without inventing new ones, so there is nothing to blur. JPGs are re-encoded once at high quality (92%) when saving — imperceptible in practice; PNG and WebP-lossless stay pixel-perfect.
Why does my phone photo look rotated on my computer in the first place?
Phones often save the photo sideways and add an orientation flag telling viewers to rotate it. Software that ignores the flag shows it sideways. This tool bakes the correct orientation into the pixels themselves, so every viewer agrees.
What is the difference between rotating 180° and flipping?
Rotating 180° turns the image upside down — text stays readable when you turn your head. Flipping mirrors it — text reads backwards. A selfie camera "un-mirror" needs a horizontal flip, not a rotation.
Can I rotate and flip at the same time?
Yes — the operations combine, and the live preview shows the exact result before you download. The output filename tells you what was applied.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The transformation runs in a background thread in your browser — the image never leaves your device.
