The finals-week question, answered exactly: what score do you need on the final to land the grade you want — with a straight verdict when the answer is “already secured” or “not possible without extra credit”.
How to use it
- Enter your current grade (everything before the final).
- Enter the grade you want to finish with.
- Enter the final’s weight from your syllabus — the required score appears instantly.
The math, and why the verdict matters
Your course grade is a weighted blend: what you’ve earned so far scaled by its share, plus the final scaled by its weight. Solving that equation backwards gives the required exam score — and the honest part is what happens at the edges. Above 100% means the target is mathematically out of reach; better to learn that with a week to spare (and ask about extra credit or aim one grade lower) than after a night of false-hope cramming. Zero or below means the grade is already locked in, which is its own kind of useful before deciding how to split study time between courses.
Study-time triage
This calculator’s real job is prioritization across finals: a course needing 55% deserves less of your week than one needing 92%. Compute your current standing first with the weighted grade calculator if the syllabus splits grades across components, then see what each result means on the 4.0 scale with the GPA converter.
Private by design
Grades are personal records. The calculation runs on your device — nothing you enter is uploaded, logged, or stored.
