Convert kilograms to pounds — and back — using the exact definition (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, fixed by the 1959 International Yard and Pound Agreement). Loads with kg → lb preselected; results update as you type.
The formula
pounds = kg × 2.2046226 (exactly: kg ÷ 0.45359237). Reverse: kg = pounds × 0.45359237. The classic mental shortcut — double it and add 10% — gives 70 kg → 140 + 14 = 154 lb, within a third of a pound of the true 154.32.

Where kg-to-lbs shows up
Body weight is the big one: medical records, fitness apps, and scales disagree across the Atlantic, and the 0.2% error in the “×2.2” habit compounds if you convert back and forth. Luggage allowances are the second: the 23 kg / 50 lb checked-bag limit and 32 kg / 70 lb heavy cap are the same rules stated in two systems. Strength training is the third — see the plate math in the FAQ, including why a US 45 lb bar isn’t a 20 kg bar. For kitchen-scale amounts, the grams to ounces converter works at recipe resolution.
