Drop in a PDF and stamp clean page numbers on every page — choose the format (1, Page 1, 1 of N, Page 1 of N), the corner, and the starting number, and skip the cover if there is one. The live preview shows exactly where the numbers will land before you commit, and the file never leaves your browser.
How to add page numbers
- Drop your PDF — the pages render as preview thumbnails.
- Pick a format and position; the preview chips move and re-label live.
- Optionally set a custom starting number or skip the first page, then click Add page numbers and download.
When page numbers save the day
The scanned contract that comes back from the printer as loose sheets. The court filing or application that must be numbered “Page X of Y”. Lecture notes assembled from three sources with no numbering at all. A report where “see page 14” currently means nothing because the PDF has no printed numbers. Merged documents — combine files with the merge tool and the original numbering becomes meaningless; re-stamp it here in one pass.
Format and position, chosen deliberately
Bottom center is the typographic default — symmetrical, and where readers look first. Bottom right matches business reports and books (outer edge on right-hand pages). Top positions suit documents whose footers are already occupied. The “of N” formats add the total page count, which turns a page number into a completeness check: if the last sheet says “Page 29 of 30”, someone knows a page is missing. When a title page shouldn’t carry a number, “Skip the first page” leaves it clean while keeping the count intact — page two prints as 2, exactly like a printed book.
What gets stamped
Numbers are drawn as real text in Helvetica 12 pt, dark gray, half an inch from the page edges — small enough to stay out of the way, crisp at any zoom, and searchable like any other text. The operation preserves everything else about the document: existing text, images, links, and page sizes are untouched. If pages are in the wrong order, fix that first with the reorder tool; to mark the document itself (DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL), add a watermark in a second pass.
Private by design
Everything — reading the PDF, measuring pages, stamping numbers, saving — runs in your browser. Contracts, medical records, and financial statements can be numbered here without any of them touching a server, because there is no server involved.
