How this is calculated

Net pay in Delaware = gross salary minus federal withholdings minus Delaware income tax. Federal (tax year 2026, Rev. Proc. 2025-32): income tax on gross minus the standard deduction ($16,100 single / $32,200 married) through the seven brackets (10%–37%); Social Security is 6.2% up to $184,500; Medicare is 1.45% plus 0.9% over $200,000 (single) / $250,000 (married). Delaware uses six brackets (0% under $2,000, then 2.2% up to 6.6% on income over $60,000), after a standard deduction ($3,250 single / $6,500 married), then subtracts a small personal credit ($110 single / $220 married). Worked example — $60,000, single: federal income tax $5,020.00, Social Security $3,720.00, Medicare $870.00, Delaware income tax $2,653.13 (taxable $56,750, minus the $110 credit); net $47,736.87 per year, about $1,836 per biweekly paycheck. Itemized deductions and other credits are not modeled.

Delaware taxes income across six brackets, from 0% on the first $2,000 up to 6.6% over $60,000 — and famously charges no sales tax. This calculator itemizes your federal withholding and the Delaware state tax for 2026 and shows the math.

How to use it

  1. Enter your annual gross salary.
  2. Pick your filing status.
  3. Delaware is preselected in the state menu.
  4. Choose your pay frequency for the per-check net.

Graduated up to 6.6%

Delaware’s brackets climb through 2.2%, 3.9%, 4.8%, 5.2%, 5.55%, and top out at 6.6% on income above $60,000. A small personal credit comes off the calculated tax. On $60,000 single, Delaware takes about $2,653. Note the Wilmington city wage tax if you live or work there — this estimate is the state portion only. Delaware’s lack of a sales tax is a genuine offset that doesn’t show up on a paycheck but matters for your overall cost of living.

Limits

Covers federal income tax, FICA, and the Delaware brackets using 2026 figures. It excludes itemized deductions, other credits, the Wilmington wage tax, and W-4 fine-tuning. Check your refund with the tax refund calculator; the flexible paycheck calculator handles any state.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Delaware state income tax rate?
Delaware has six graduated brackets: income under $2,000 is untaxed, then rates run from 2.2% up to a top rate of 6.6% on income over $60,000. Because that top bracket starts at $60,000, many full-time earners reach the 6.6% rate on part of their income.
How much is withheld from a $60,000 paycheck in Delaware?
For a single filer in 2026: about $5,020 federal income tax, $3,720 Social Security, $870 Medicare, and roughly $2,653 Delaware income tax — leaving about $47,737 a year, or $1,836 per biweekly check, before any 401(k) or insurance.
Does Delaware have a local wage tax?
Wilmington levies a city wage tax (about 1.25%) on residents and people who work in the city. It is separate from the state rate, so this calculator shows the state portion and does not include the Wilmington tax. Delaware famously has no state sales tax, though.
Which tax year does this use?
Tax year 2026: the IRS federal figures from Rev. Proc. 2025-32, the SSA $184,500 wage base, and Delaware's 2.2%–6.6% brackets with its standard deduction and personal credit.
